Good Morning all, if you don't know it you must first come up with a reasonable plan before you build. A part of doing that is to consider how you are going to use the space. We are currently using just about 120 square feet and building this Huge Tiny House will give us just about 520 (20' by 26') square feet of living space. One hundred square feet of that will be lifestyle storage. Although the balcony is not yet drawn there will be a second floor for two things, the balcony access and more storage. The stairway will be outdoors and covered but not enclosed.
You can see a variety of cabinets, shelves and closets in every room. Plus you can see the layout of the usable space. Having lived in so much less space for the last 2 years, we have been able to find an economy pattern of moving around in a small space so I put those lessons to good use here. We have been tearing apart the many pallets we are collecting for the walls, both inside and out in most of the area's the rest will be used to build a 1000 foot deck that wraps the Hugh Tiny House. We have lacked any outdoor space at all and I'm in dire need, emotionally and creatively. The goal is to have as much outdoor living space as possible. I want to be able to paint outside when the weather permits.
There is a seven foot long closet in the bedroom the second doorway to the bathroom a mudroom off the back door. We are going to use an alternative method for a tub, I have always wanted to convert a watering trough into a tub. You line them with a liner or epoxy a coat of porcelain paint to seal the inside. We will probably do the latter if I can find the right trough. A bit like the picture.
You can see from the sketch below where the bathroom windows will be on the east wall.
We are going to go industrial in the bathroom because the things we have gleaned so far will dictate it's look. This picture shows the look as very shiny, however it will be a bit more rusty looking, we will seal the rust with a couple of coats of polyurethane to keep it from rusting further as well and flaking of into the tub. The sink is actually very Victorian looking, open with tooled legs and a beige sink. Since we will be using an RV style toilet we will build a throne for it to sit on, elegant and since I tend to like a good joke, ostentatious but rustic.
The little window on the left in the above picture is over the sink in the kitchen. We will also be adding skylights, from something I have designed which I will blog about eventually.
The west side of the house (above) will get very little sun, there is a small mountain to the west that the sun goes behind around 2:30pm so the windows are for the view mostly. The flora and fauna are plentiful out in the woods and I don't want to miss any of it when we are out there.
Michael does not like exterior french doors, I do, but as you can see there they are. In my willingness to make him happy, I have planned on putting them in....Snort...but to really make him happy, I have added sliding doors that will lock from the inside when we retire, or go away for an event, or for work. I think I already have the doors, if not of course I will glean for them. Craislist has become a great place to find things as well as a half a dozen other places, next I will have to find the door mechanism.
This is the back of the house, the north side. Yes that is a whole lot of doors. Only one of them will allow for entry into the Huge Tiny House, the rest are the fronts of 12 inch deep by 36 inch wide storage shelving. We pick up a bunch of these doors tonight. The shelves will be made from scrap
Thank you my friend T, you know who you are!!!! Next to that are the 9 grid windows that will be in the bedroom. I love the stars and want to see them at night, and I love the light and will need it to paint by in the day. We have most of the windows for the Huge Tiny House already. All will be fixed into place we have a different type of ventilation planned. That will be it's own blog when it is time to explain the how to. The next step for me is to blueprint these sketches to build from. If I'm not around, I still want to make sure the windows are where they belong, as well and any connections that will make this Huge Tiny House run properly.
All the extra doors will be turned into little houses for the cats, with hope the chickens I know my husband will want, and AAAHHH a goat for milking. Michael better outlive me I don't like to milk goats.
On this chicken thing, one time one of my city friends said to me do you have to use tongs to pull the eggs out or do they come out by themselves? I had to look away I could not look into her eyes without cracking up, she was just so serious.
Stay tuned, next I will be talking about toilets. Don't get flushed, it's a serious issue.
